Altar Guild
The Altar Guild of St. Matthew’s grew a little bit in 2010. We’re pleased to welcome Kim Caruthers, Tricia Ekberg and Dora Baker to our group. We’re also thrilled to have Sue Harper back as a full time member. Our guild is currently 17 members strong!
Some may not realize the important role that altar guild plays in our weekly worship. We are responsible for preparing and cleaning up after every service during the week, currently two services on Sunday mornings and one at noon on Wednesdays, as well as weddings, baptisms, funerals and other special services. We have a very dedicated group of women serving on Altar Guild and I’m humbled to be among them.
Jean McCollough is our unofficial “trainer” and is always willing to schedule a training session for new members or even a refresher training for members that have done it for several years. She recently updated our manual and it makes our job so much easier. Thanks Jean! Our other Jean, Jean Snyder, is our quiet, behind the scenes person who monitors and fills the oil in all the candles and sanctuary lamp and orders our communion wafers. She checks these items weekly and we’re so thankful for her!
We love to welcome new members to our group. If you’d like to serve with us, please consider speaking with me or Fr. Steve anytime!
Respectfully submitted,
Claire Cashwell
