Choir
The Adult Choir at St. Matthew’s had a busy season. Our Adult Choir has included the following singers; Margaret Moss, Leslie Terrell, Marilyn Kincannon, Libby Fosmire, Angela Pennello Joanna Samples, Pam Henry, Milo Allen, Eric Pennello, Michael Hunter and David Hume. We had additional help from Andy Fosmire. We were sad to loose Patty Tate as organist in April but were then blessed to receive Chuck Belknap as our new organist. The Adult Choir continues to be an organization that is committed and faithful to providing liturgical music at our church. The efforts and dedication of these people are greatly appreciated.
We have been blessed with the talents of other musicians to supplement our choral program. David Hume cantered for us at Easter Vigil for the second year in a row. We had several special guests for offertories this year. They include Noah Allen, cello, Bob Belknap, David Tully provided brass on Easter, Max Fosmire provided guitar and singing and Libby and Milo sang as well. Al Jensen and his student, Brenna Mason, played an oboe duet during Advent. Chuck Belknap entertained us on Christmas Eve at the reception.
I am excited that we have a new assistant music director. This position is held by Angela Pennello. She is a music educator in the Enid Public Schools and has already brought fresh ideas and talent to our music ministry. Angela works every Sunday in the Christian Education (Sunday school) with Diane Fosmire and helped to arrange, teach, and perform the Orff music for the “Walk to Bethlehem” children’s Christmas labyrinth walk as well as prepared music for and assisted with the Sunday school’s special events this fall. Angela is also blessed with a beautiful voice and has sung solos on several occasions.
We were blessed to receive new choir robes this year.
The Choir performed at the Cherokee Strip regional Heritage Center during Advent and made the front page of the Enid News and Eagle. We also hosted The Oklahoma Master Chorale for a traditional Lessons and Carols service featuring members of the Enid community as readers. This event was sponsored by Park Avenue Thrift which we greatly appreciated.
We are eager to expand the music program to include more groups. This would add more variety to our worship and provide another opportunity for church members to express their faith through music. Ideas at this time include a Handbell Choir, Children’s Choir, and Orff Ensemble. Orff music uses percussion instruments such as xylophones, bells, cymbals, and chimes and is very accessible to children of all ages.
I would like to thank everyone for your support for the music program at St. Matthew’s.
Yours in Christ,
Elizabeth Allen, Music Director
