Ecclesiastical Art
Christus Rex
St. Matthew's Church is rich in religious art work and has been fortunate in having several artists who have been most generous with their time and talent, particularly Miss Gwen Hendrickson, Mrs. Katie Athey (Christoff), Mrs. Lucile Burk, Mrs. Rena Brittan and Mrs. Eva Rawlins.
The nave is unique with its exquisite wood-carved panels and stained glass windows/ the Memorial Chapel, with its historic statue of the Holy Family; the choir, with its rood grouping and apostolic symbol plaques; and the sanctuary with the wood-carved Christus Rex.
The "Christ the King" wood carving behind the high altar was a tremendous undertaking by Miss Gwen Hendrickson, which required thousands of hours of backbreaking work to complete. It is more than 5 feet high made of Philippine mahogany, dedicated in 1955.

Madonna and Child
This beautifully carved Madonna and Child is the work of Mrs. Katie Athey (Christoff) and was dedicated in 1945. The carving is marked by simplicity and charm. The figures are placed on a framing piece, surrounded by a Gothic arch in which a trefoil is in front of and around a cross.
